Vitamin K2
What is Vitamin K2?
Vitamin K2 is a fat-soluble vitamin that was ignored for a long time but is now receiving the scientific attention it deserves. It should not be confused with vitamin K, also referred to as K1, which is essential for blood coagulation. K2 has a very important role which is transporting calcium to your bones and teeth. So if you want to build and maintain strong bones, supplementing calcium is not enough, you also need vitamin K2.
But strong bones and teeth are only part of the story. What happens if you don’t have sufficient K2 and calcium doesn’t get adequately absorbed to your bones and teeth? Well, it goes into the soft tissues of your body. Improperly absorbed calcium also goes into your arteries, forming plaques and promoting atherosclerosis. Furthermore, it goes into your kidneys and joints and breast tissue where it causes all kinds of mischief.
So K2 not only does something good, but just as importantly, it prevents something bad from happening.
What to Take with K2
It should be emphasized that when additionally supplementing K2 with vitamin D3 your rate of calcium absorption is increased dramatically, and therefore we very much recommend that vitamin K2 is added so that that calcium is properly and safely utilized.
