Vitamin D-3
Why Do You Need Vitamin D?
D3 is tremendously important to our health. It is not only essential in the absorption of calcium and for bone health, but also for the functioning of our immune system. D3 influences the expression of over 2,500 genes that regulate proper body function.
Low D3 promotes inflammation, and chronic inflammation has been linked to virtually all modern chronic diseases that plague us today, from cardiovascular disease to type 2 diabetes to dementia and Alzheimer’s. It has been reported that those with higher levels of D3 had a much lower degree of hospitalization and death during the pandemic than those deficient in D3.
How Much Vitamin D Do You Need?
Your body makes vitamin D3 when exposed to sunlight. A young person can make as much as 25,000 I.U. of D3 with a 20-min exposure to the sun. But we have been made afraid of the sun, and a 70-year-old will make only one fourth the amount of D3 compared to a young person. The result is that nearly 70% of the US population is deficient in Vitamin D3. Deficiency is defined in the US as less than 30 nanograms per milliliter. In Europe, anything less than 75 nongrams is considered inadequate.
What Goes Well With Vitamin D?
Ideally, vitamin D3 should be taken with vitamin K2 and Magnesium. K2 is a calcium transporter. Once you taken vitamin D3, K2 properly takes the higher amount of calcium now absorbed to the bones and teeth and keeps it out of the soft tissues of the body, out of the arteries, out of the kidneys and out of the joints and breast tissues where it can do harm.
Magnesium, besides being a very important mineral for overall wellbeing, is needed to activate the functions of vitamin D3 in our bodies. Without sufficient Magnesium, vitamin D3 cannot protect us, and over 70% of US adults do not get their minimum daily requirements of this mineral.
D3 can make a huge difference in your health and survival. Normally 5,000 I.U. will get you into the upper range and give you all the protection that you need.
